Are Stainless Steel Cabinets Suitable for Humid Spaces?
It can be a suitable route, but stainless steel does not make an entire room automatically waterproof, mildew-proof or maintenance-free. Results depend on materials, joints, building waterproofing, ventilation and use conditions.
Assess the environment first
- Identify indoor, semi-outdoor or outdoor exposure, including salt air, strong sun, pool chemicals or frequent cleaners;
- Record leak risks, falls to drains, ventilation and wall or floor waterproofing;
- Locate sinks, services, drains, washing machines and equipment ventilation.
Review cabinet details
- Confirm the stainless steel grade and finish;
- Inspect openings, corners, edges, feet, plinths, wall connections and dissimilar-material contact points;
- State approved cleaning methods and chemicals that should not be used.
Define responsibilities
- Cabinet supply should not be confused with building waterproofing, drainage, ventilation or local electrical works;
- Pre-installation conditions, post-installation checks and issue handling should be documented.
